An AI-generated video depicting a alleged coup in France garnered 13 million views in just a few days.

The video spread widely on Facebook. A “journalist” from the fictional channel “Live 24” claimed that French President Emmanuel Macron and his government had been overthrown.

Even after the French president issued an official statement, Meta refused to remove the fake video, claiming it did not violate the platform’s “terms of use.”
