A major escalation in the Middle East conflict occurred today as Iran launched retaliatory strikes against energy infrastructure across the Persian Gulf region. The attacks targeted key facilities including Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas hubs, as well as oil refineries in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
The Iranian missile strikes came in response to an Israeli airstrike on Iran’s South Pars gas field, which significantly damaged one of the country’s most important energy assets. The exchange of attacks has halted production at several major refineries and sent shockwaves through global energy markets.
Brent crude oil prices surged to nearly $114 per barrel following the attacks, while natural gas prices jumped by 25%. The rapid escalation has raised fears of a broader regional conflict that could severely disrupt global energy supplies.
Arab foreign ministers meeting in Riyadh condemned what they called Iran’s “deliberate attacks” on civilian infrastructure using ballistic missiles and drones. Qatar declared Iranian military attaches “persona non grata” and demanded their departure within 24 hours.
U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran, stating that Israel would not strike Iran’s South Pars gas field again unless Tehran retaliates first. He also threatened to “blow up” the entire facility if Iran continues attacks on Qatar’s LNG infrastructure.
The United Nations has warned that over one million people have been displaced in Lebanon due to intensified Israeli strikes. The humanitarian crisis is worsening as the conflict shows no signs of de-escalation.
