Director Ryan Coogler, known for his work on Black Panther and Creed, is set to bring the beloved 90s book series Animorphs to life as a television series for Disney Plus, fulfilling the dreams of fans who grew up with the sci-fi saga.
The Animorphs series, which follows a group of teenagers who gain the ability to transform into any animal they touch, was a cultural phenomenon in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The books sold over 35 million copies worldwide and spawned a dedicated fanbase.
Coogler’s involvement has generated significant excitement, given his track record of creating compelling, character-driven stories with diverse casts. Industry insiders expect the adaptation to bring a fresh, cinematic approach to the source material.
The series will reportedly explore themes of identity, friendship, and the moral complexities of war, which made the original books stand out in the young adult genre. The adaptation is expected to appeal to both nostalgic original readers and new audiences.
Production is slated to begin later this year, with a premiere date expected in 2027. Disney has not yet announced casting details, but speculation about potential actors has already begun circulating among fans online.
