Tensions between the United States and Iran have reached a critical point following a military confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz on April 20, 2025. U.S. naval forces intercepted and seized an Iranian cargo vessel, prompting Iran to announce new shipping restrictions.

The Iranian parliament declared that foreign vessels will require special authorization to pass through Hormuz waters. The UN has called for immediate de-escalation. Analysts warn that prolonged closure could send oil prices above $100 per barrel.
